Paul studied at Queens University, Belfast & qualified in 1983. He completed his post graduate training in Northern Ireland before moving to Australia in 1990. He spent 10 years in rural General Practice, Obsteteric and inpatient medical care for a population of 2500. He found the opportunity to be part of the community & provide continuity of care for patients admitted to hospital both challenging & very rewarding. In 2000 he moved to Moruya because of educational needs of his family & has endeavoured to continue a holistic approach to medicine by combining General Practice with Accident & Emergency & a VMO position at Moruya Hospital. He is no longer accepting new patients.

Dr Jorg Ziergiebel

I have worked as a nurse and as a Medical Officer in the German Defence Force prior to my graduation in Medicine from Rostock University, Germany, in 1994. My post graduate training, mainly in the United Kingdom, involved several Specialities, including Accident & Emergency Medicine & Surgery, General Medicine, Anaesthetics, General Practice, Intensive Care Medicine, Orthopaedics, Neurology & Urology.
Since my move to Australia in 2003 I have been working as a General Practitioner in Moruya. I am a Visiting Medical Officer at Moruya & Batemans Bay hospitals, providing anaesthetic care. I am also a supervisor for GP registrar training. Being involved in the training of medical students & young doctors is a particular passion of mine. I am a proud father of 2 lovely children & I enjoy being with my family & animals. I love the outdoors, flowers & music. My favourite animal – big cats, favourite flower – iris & favourite colour is orange

Dr Anke Dutschke

Anke grew up in Germany and worked for a year as a nurse prior to studying Medicine at Rostock University, Germany. She qualified in 1994 after coming back from a year in Australia & New Zealand. Whilst on maternity leave she completed her thesis ‘Premature rupture of fetal membranes’ in 1995 & obtained her PhD. She completed her post graduate GP training in 2003 at the George Elliot Hospital in Nuneaton, UK, which included posts in Accident & Emergency, Paediatrics, Obstsetrics & Gynaecology and Psychiatry.
Before moving to Australia she achieved certificates in Family Planning & Obstetrics, her MRCGP and worked in a general practice in Coleshill, a rural town in the UK. Since coming to Australia in 2003, she has spent all her time in the General Practice in Moruya, especially enjoying working with women & children. She endeavours to offer a holistic approach to medicine by routinely involving allied health specialists & alternative care practitioners.
Over the past twenty years she’s been responsible for teaching medical students at the ANU Rural Clinic School and is still working as a Supervisor for GP Registrars & Medical Students at the MMC at present.
Anke is a mother of two adult children and can’t wait for grandkids to arrive. She loves reading, writing and dancing, and being all around creative & being surrounded by nature. She has published her first book ‘Deception’ in 2022 under her pseudonym Anke Zet – part of the sales proceedings being donated to Cancer Council NSW. She danced in the ‘Dancing for Cancer’ competition in Feb2022 where she raised almost $15.000.

Dr Stephen Ellwood

Steve has been a GP in Moruya since 1993. He graduated in 1982 from Melbourne University.
He completed his residency at Geelong Hospital then in the subsequent years completed his Diploma of Obstetrics, Diploma of Anaesthesia in the UK, as well as doing a year of Aboriginal Health in Broome and working in an altitude sickness clinic at the base of Mt Everest.
He has been a VMO anaesthetist till early 2020 but has recently decided to cease anaesthetics. He intends to return to some VMO role at the local hospital in the near future.
Since ceasing anaesthetics, he has enjoyed refocusing on his general practice role.
His passion outside work include kite surfing, surfing, stand up paddleboarding, foiling, tennis and golf (the latter being a work in progress). He has 2 daughters in their 20's.
Steve has had health issues since 2005 necessitating periods off work but is back better than before!
His interests include mental health, preventative aspects of care and whole patient care. He is happy to manage various skin cancer presentations.
Dr Viwa Lailai-Tasmania

Viwa is originally from Fiji Islands. She studied at The Fiji School of Medicine, Fiji Islands, qualifying in 2003. She worked in the rural/ remote areas in Fiji before migrating to Niue Island in 2007 to join her partner. She went on to complete a Post graduate Diploma in Obstetrics and Medical Gynecology, 2012 and a Postgraduate certificate in rural and provincial hospital practice, 2016 at Otago University in Dunedin, NZ, whilst working at Dunedin Hospital.
In both Fiji Islands and Niue Island she cared for rural communities, Emergency Department, inpatient care, as well as the care of Obstetric patients. Her passion is the care of women and their children. In 2016, she moved to Australia with her family, she is married with 3 children. Loves all things outdoors, the beach, fishing, vegetable gardening, hanging out with her children

Dr Hong Jie Soh
MBBS, FRACGP
Independent General Practitioner
Hong Jie graduated from Western Sydney University and then completed training with ACT Health and Calvary hospitals in different specialities including Urology, General Surgery, General Medicine and Emergency Medicine.
He has interests in Dermatology, Men's Health and Sexual Health. He has also undertaken training in Child Health.
During his spare time Hong Jie enjoys going to the gym and playing squash. He is also an avid photographer and loves drone videography.
Dr Russell McGoldrick

Russell trained at the Australian National University, spending his junior years across Canberra and Calvary Hospitals in the ACT, predominantly focusing on emergency and critical care medicine. He spent a year of medical school in the Eurobodalla, and has been looking forward to returning permanently ever since, a goal which he has now achieved. He is committed to rural medicine, having commenced specialty training as a Rural Generalist in 2021, initially across emergency and general practice.
Outside of medicine, Russell loves to travel, and managed to squeeze his family of six into a caravan to do a lap of Australia and work at various emergency departments around the country in 2021. On his return to Eurobodalla, he spent a year working in emergency and general practice in Batemans Bay, before completing rural generalist anaesthetics training in Bega in 2023. He currently spends his time working between Moruya Medical Centre and the hospital system, conducting anaesthetics at Batemans Bay, Moruya, and Bega hospitals.
Dr. Canddy Wen

Canddy was born and raised in Fiji. She completed her MBBS degree at the Fiji School of Medicine.
Canddy then moved to Australia with her family. After passing the Australian Medical Council exams, she worked in the Hunter New England Local Health District for 2 and half years, then 1 year at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital.
She enjoys cooking, Salsa dancing and building/collecting Lego.
Canddy commences consulting at Moruya Medical Centre on Monday 10th February 2025.

This surgery is a teaching facility of the ANU Medical School. We host students in the various stages of their medical training. Under the supervision of our doctors, the students gain an understanding of what it means to be a general practitioner in a small coastal communiy.

Frank completed his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees of Psychology studies in Canada. His clinical experience includes working in group homes, inpatient settings, outpatient settings, individual and group work and private practice in Canada and Australia. After immigrating to Australia in 1998 Frank worked with the Acute Mental Health team in Monaro NSW before becoming the team leader of that team and then Sector Manager responsible for all Mental Health operations in Monaro NSW. He subsequently became Service Director for Mental Health Services in Sydney West overseeing the delivery of Mental Health care for the region from St Marys’ to Lithgow NSW.
He returned to the coastal lifestyle over 10 years ago working in private practice with the Moruya Medical Centre ever since. In his spare time, he enjoys the great outdoors and volunteers teaching Jiu Jitsu locally.
